Online Communication - Business Assessment

Overall, I would say that Powell's Books does a fairly good job at communicating on their website and other platforms. When you go onto their website, they list both virtual and in-person events that are open to the public. They also have a section where you can contact the company for any inquiries that require direct communication. Adding onto that, they have a help page where you can seek answers to frequently asked questions. On their website, they feature books of the month at the top, events and sales in the middle, and a business statement at the bottom. I believe the organization of the homepage is very well thought out. The business anticipated that if people are coming to their website, they will be looking for book recommendations first. Although some people may be looking for sales and events, it isn't of utmost importance which is why they put those sections in the middle. Lastly, I believe that it is nice that they have a business statement, but most people aren't going to the website solely to read that section. In general, I think the way they set up their page is very effective and places importance on the sections with the most popularity. Through its website, the business clearly communicates its identity. In their business statement, they clearly portray themselves as an independent bookstore with a "variety and richness" in their books. They also communicate their identity by providing books with a variety of authors to signify diversity and inclusiveness. In addition, in their blog section, they provide recommendations for books surrounding different social issues to show their support. Although Powell's Book has very effective communication, I think they could either lengthen their business statement or create an "About Us" page in order to provide more information about their identity.
